Dr. Burgmeier grew up in Dubuque, Iowa. He went to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. where he competed in football and track and graduated with honors with a BA degree majoring in Biology. He then went to the University of Iowa where he graduated from the Dental College in 1985.

Dr. Burgmeier has continued his education by completing many continuing education courses ranging from cosmetics to implants. Dr. Burgmeier has studied at the prestigious Center for Advance Dental Study under world-renowned clinicians, Dr. Peter Dawson and Dr. Mark A. Piper,

completing comprehensive courses ranging from cosmetics, implants, full mouth reconstructions, to treating facial pain and TMJ disorders.
Dr. Burgmeier and his family are active sports fans. They follow the local high school and college sports teams and cheer on the Hawkeyes, Vikings, and Minnesota Wild as much as possible. Dr. Burgmeier loves outdoor activities including fishing, skiing, boating and biking. For over 15 years, Dr. Burgmeier and his wife Mary team up with several friends and couples to ride in Ragbrai.

Dr. Burgmeier and wife Mary have four children, Kyle, Lauren, Andrew and Joe. The kids are all active in school and sports. Hockey, baseball, football, and golf for the boys and dance, figure skating, and cheerleading for Lauren.
